The Great Church Builder

Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say I am?”  Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”  Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.  And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades  will not overcome it.  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”  Matthew 16:15-19 NIV

Jesus established the Church over 2,000 years ago.  And he has continued to build his Church right up to this very day.  Over the years, the Church has endured persecution, enjoyed good favor among their communities and everything in between.  Sometimes the Church had to go underground.  Other times the Church enjoyed great freedom to gather openly.  The Church has switched modes and leveraged technology all along the way.  And through it all, Jesus has continued to empower his Church to fulfill the great mission of spreading the good news of Jesus throughout the world.

As your partner in ministry, we have the honor of serving your church as you creatively switch modes and leverage technology in amazing ways.  So many churches have accelerated their online giving, mobile smart phone apps, mass emailing & text messaging, streaming church services online and so much more.  Once again, the Church has prevailed and overcome!  And to you this word of encouragement we share, “well done, good and faithful servant!”

History shows that the Church excels at fulfilling her great mission during challenging times.  It is true that our traditional modes of “doing church” were suddenly interrupted.  But I am really looking forward, someday, to seeing the replay video from God’s perspective.  It’s just like our good Shephard to use these disruptive times to draw more people to himself.  These times have certainly made it easier for everyone to watch a church service online from the comfort of their living room…removing the excuse, “I’m uncomfortable about walking into an unfamiliar church building.”  It has made it so much easier for people to take that initial step in the right direction…toward Jesus.  Let’s build on this remarkable opportunity.
