Add Searching & Reporting functionality around Contribution Memo

Type: Forum Post
By: David Girdwood on 1.22.12 in -Ideas and Suggestions-

If admin users were able to perform a Contribution Search based on the Memo field, this would allow an additional level of functionality on top of Funds & SubFunds.

Understandably, the memo field is keyable but this would be very useful for looking up notes with a particular standard as defined by the church.  For example, if the church enters NSF in the memo field each time a contribution is returned for insufficient funds, this would allow them to search for NSF check entries.

Additionally, it would be beneficially if this were added as a Filter on the G1050 report.  Currently, it is only a column that can be displayed.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi David!

Thanks for the feedback! We've passed this on to our Development Team and Reporting Team for consideration.

David,

I suggest that Contribution Attributes are what you really asking for. They provide the means to report on a group of contributions based on some value or tag you determine. Our Core Report G1050 will do just that if you would tag all NSF contributions with an NSF attribute as you reverse them.

Thanks,

Thanks Jeff.  I was using NSF as an example more than as the reason for the post.

I still feel that allowing users to search and report on the memo field would create an additional level of functionality (beyond Funds & SubFunds) within the contribution entry.  As I understand it, currently, the Contribution Attributes can be assigned from the Search form but cannot be selected/assigned within a contribution entry.  Perhaps another solution would be to allow Contribution Attributes to be assigned on the Enter Contributions form.

Thanks for your consideration.
